Consider Studying TaeKwon-Do at our Academy -
Our History: 2022 will mark 50 incredible, successful, life changing years in proudly providing Martial Arts to our WNY community. We have trained over 15,000 students, seen many life long friendships form, families grow and even students from 30 years ago bring their kids… and even grand kids for the very best TaeKwon-Do around. Our TaeKwon-Do journey begins with the Founder of TaeKwon-Do – General Choi Hong Hi. Both him and one of his Original TKD Masters, now Grand Master Park Jong Soo trained Grand Master David Thiele (Founder of Jong Park Institute of WNY, est. 1972) Our Academy has been instructed by world champions, produced world champions and always ensure the very best for our students. You are in excellent hands.
Our Instructors: Each and every class has multiple professional instructors, assistant instructors and upcoming academy leaders. Both of our head instructors have 20 plus years training experience, our assistant instructors 10 plus years training experience and as awesome as our youth/ teen black belts are… adults run lessons here.
Not an activity/ More than a sport: TaeKwon-Do is a discipline, skillset and way of life. We are not seasonal, there are no participation trophies, nor do we promote higher ranks because money is exchanged. TaeKwon-Do will challenge you, and we are here for you each step of the way. Sports are great. Explore your athletics, hobbies and play games. Many of our students participate in seasonal sports outside of our Academy, and perform better because of TaeKwon-Do. Just know we are open 7 days a week. We will be here to continue your martial development when the games end. You may never go pro with a sport, but you will become a confident fighter. TaeKwon-Do doesn’t have limitations, you will become fitter, more focused, healthier and learn to defend yourself.
The Long Game: Whether it is for a job or time for college applications, being a black belt says a lot about you. It shows you can handle stress; you will stick around and are able to maintain self-discipline. Many studies have shown the benefits of training martial arts at any age have long term benefits. Martial Arts students have healthier joints, make better decisions for their health and more often than not take leadership roles within their community/ workplace. Character development and learning to defend yourself goes hand in hand.
Self Defense: Life can absolutely be hard, and the world has been pretty crazy lately. We focus heavily on conflict resolution, de-escalation and instilling spatial awareness within our students. Reality can go beyond escaping, you may have to defend yourself and that's a perk of training TaeKwon-Do. Nobody wins in a fight. Self defense is for survival, getting home as safely as possible – or protecting a loved one. At our Academy you will face many challenges and be placed in what is commonly uncomfortable situations. This toughens the mind, body and spirit. You cannot manage the entire world and everyone in it. Only yourself, your emotions and how you respond. Today bullying doesn't stop when a kid or even adult gets home. The internet can bless us and bring ruin to our mental health. Give yourself the confidence to shut the negativity out, the courage to turn the other cheek, and the community to embrace your differences.
Community: Our youth need leadership, and you are never too old to be part of something big. To spend a couple hours of dedication and sweat each week with some of the best people around is life changing. Everyone here is helpful, encouraging, enthusiastic and I am not speaking about our instructors yet! We have wonderful people from all walks of life making this Academy a family. Each new student is immediately welcomed into that family like you've always been here. Being around great people with a common mindset will do you some good. Parents can rest easy knowing their children have great role models and mentors in their life. Encouraging them to be the best they can be, most importantly not just within these walls.
A Brief History... TaeKwon-Do was developed by General Choi Hong Hi, Officially given its name by April 11, 1955. Combining elements of Taekkyeon and Karate, General Choi unified the Kwans (Schools) of Korea and created a superior, more ergonomic fighting system. During the 1960's General Choi spearheaded the worldwide spread of TaeKwon-Do. Sending his original 12 masters out to different countries around the globe as a goodwill mission. One of those original masters is our very own, now Grand Master Park Jong Soo. Located in Toronto Canada, Grand Master Park has dedicated every waking moment to the growth and progression of the art. Just over 50 years ago, Grand Master David Thiele was introduced to Grand Master Park Jong Soo, leading to a powerful relationship that is strong today. Together, these men have and continue to make TaeKwon-Do available to tens of thousands. Grand Master David Thiele, Grand Master Heisner and Master Dustin Prescott oversee and promote student.
